Wireless Energy

The past few decades have been beneficial to the tech user. New inventions are constantly flowing into the market. Smartphones and computers get smaller, faster, and cheaper. Wi-Fi and 3G are becoming more and more widespread. The super fast data connections speeds of 4G are on their way. However, there is still a major breakthrough left, one that will redefine the industry all over again. This invention is wireless electricity.
Normally, electricity cannot be conducted efficiently through air. It has a resistance similar to electrical current as rubber. This however can be changed. The entire idea of wireless electricity revolves around using a magnetic field to increase conductivity, thus increasing efficiency and range.
The idea for wireless electricity began over a hundred years ago, when Nikola Tesla exhibited it in 1981. However, his laboratory notes along with all his work was confiscated by the government.  Only recently have we been rediscovering Nikola Tesla’s work. Nikola Tesla had even greater visions of the future of wireless electricity. in fact, he foresaw the similar product in wireless Internet in a quote in 1908.
“As soon as completed, it will be possible for a business man in New York to dictate instructions, and have them instantly appear in type at his office in London or elsewhere. He will be able to call up, from his desk, and talk to any telephone subscriber on the globe, without any change whatever in the existing equipment. An inexpensive instrument, not bigger than a watch, will enable its bearer to hear anywhere, on sea or land, music or song, the speech of a political leader, the address of an eminent man of science, or the sermon of an eloquent clergyman, delivered in some other place, however distant. In the same manner any picture, character, drawing, or print can be transferred from one to another place. Millions of such instruments can be operated from but one plant of this kind. More important than all of this, however, will be the transmission of power, without wires, which will be shown on a scale large enough to carry conviction.” Tesla had even bigger aspirations with wireless electricity. He theorized that he could use the ionosphere to broadcast power at insane distances. This would allow worldwide access to electricity through towers across the globe. However, he went insane in the later years of his life and was not able to fulfill his large dreams.
The future of Wireless electricity is bright. If Wireless electricity becomes widespread, portable devices will shrink dramatically. With Wireless electricity, many items will not require batteries, one of the larger components in most devices. Already several companies have sprung up with the promise of wireless electricity in the future.
